Notes from the VP of Academic Affairs

VP Academic Affairs: Muhtadi Faiaz

The VP for Academic Affairs serves as GPSA’s liaison with the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Career Services Center, and the Academic Senate.

GPSA’s Professional Development Coordinator (professional@gsa.ucsd.edu) works out of this office to help coordinate the GrAdvantage Career Nights and other professional development events, such as the PhD Career Conference.

The VP Academic Affairs’ office organizes research events, such as: Interdisciplinary Research Awards, Travel Grant Research Showcase--Drinks & Diss, and the Chancellor’s Dissertation Medal.

Finally, as liaison to the Academic Senate, VP Academic Affairs appoints grad student representatives to campuswide committees of the UCSD Academic Senate and the Academic Affairs Office. Grad student committee reps are the voice of grad students in these policy-making committees for the campus. Sitting on a committee allows grad students to demonstrate their leadership skills and their ability to work as part of a team consisting mainly of faculty, staff, and administrators. Committee work also allows students to enhance their networks across the UCSD campus. If anyone is interested in serving on a committee contact me at vpacademic@gsa.ucsd.edu.
